Life competencies
Power Up is the first English course to incorporate the Cambridge Framework for Life Competencies. The Framework examines social, emotional and cognitive skills at different stages of the learning journey. Power Up offers opportunities to develop the children’s competencies relevant to their age.
Missions
Collaborative real-life activities, prepared in stages, open and close every unit. After each stage the learners reflect on their learning and do a self-evaluation in the Activity Book. As they complete each stage they tick off the check list to see their progress.
Literature
Literature in every unit exposes children to different literary genres and encourages reading for pleasure. This section develops a range of emotional and social competencies.
Ordering events in the story, prediction, identifying the main points and skimming are essential reading skills. Power Up practises them across all levels.
Cross curricular and culture focus
Cross-curricular lessons focus on the language needed to understand natural and social sciences and to complete the unit Mission.
Documentary-style videos extend the topic as children broaden their knowledge of subjects, countries and cultures around the world.
Videos support language learning
Catchy chants and songs with animated videos develop a wide vocabulary range as well as language skills.
There are two vocabulary sections in every unit, presented through attractive visuals, that aid comprehension. In lower levels the visuals are attractive illustrations and animations; in higher levels they are in photograph and video vlog format.
Confident learners
Through focused learning strategy tips, and self-assessment in every unit, young learners can see how much they have learnt. They can use this knowledge and strategies to take ownership of their learning and tackle exams without fear.
Confidence for life
Collaborative projects and focus on social and emotional competencies develop young learners to become confident and better prepared to face life challenges.
