Yes, Learn’s
Behaviour Code
Student Online Classroom Code of Conduct & Behaviour
Last updated: 1st August 2022
1. Attendance
Attendance is expected to be as required for regular in-person classes. Learners are expected to attend in a completely purposeful way for every single scheduled class. Attendance expectations are outlined below:
1. Missed classes and gaps in attendance should be arranged at least 48 hours in advanced. Yes, Learn understands that emergencies arise infrequently and reporting and accommodation for absences should be communicated to Learning Support via the classroom application’s messaging function.
2. Ensure to keep some time for logging in to handle unexpected technical glitches. Learners should enter the classroom and be ready to learn at least 10 minutes before the class is scheduled to start. A learner’s camera may be switched off during this time, but must be switched back on for the schedule start of the class. Joining mid-way can be very distracting for other participants and will not be viewed favourably by the teacher either.
3. Active participation: This mode of teaching will only be successful if everyone actively participates and contributes to all discussions and activities to the very best of their ability. This is an expectation of purposeful attendance. A degree of shyness is understandable from our youngest learners. Yes, Learn teachers’ aim is alway to grow and develop the confidence of our learners to become as expressive as possible in English. For this, full participation is required. Being present is not enough, in the same way it is not for our teachers.
4. If a learner’s attendance becomes an issue or is impractical, please just let us at Yes, Learn know.
5. Further clarification, with regard to attendance please refer to our Terms and Conditions of Service [9] and [10].
2. Dress Code & Behaviour
Yes, Learn students are expected to be respectful of the online classroom environment with suggested dress similar to regular academic classes and the following online learning behaviours:
1. Classroom etiquette requires you to look presentable and ready to learn. You must dress in a way that is modest, clean and avoids unnecessary distraction. An important aspect of online etiquette is that you have to share your screen through video (unless you are not well) in order to take part in classroom activities. You have to dress well and nightdress and any immodest clothing should be strictly avoided.
2. Be respectful of your classmates and your Yes, Learn teachers, in the same way we expect them to treat you. Allow others to speak, invite others to share, and respect other’s ideas. Active listening is very important for this to happen. Contact Learning Support for guidance if necessary.
3. Keep your image “live” during class sessions. It is important to maintain eye contact into your camera to show your teacher that, you are focussed on the class, unless of course, you are taking notes. Please remember enable the teacher to support your pronunciation, your whole face must be visible on-screen at all times facial movement and mouth shape is very important.
3. Microphone Awareness
1. Microphones are almost always on. Remember that your classmates and teacher can hear noises in your environment such as dogs barking, family member conversations, TV sounds, whispering, chewing, sneezing, and tapping your pen or pencil, etc. so please keep distractions to a minimum or mute your microphone. It is preferable that you find a quiet place in your home, office or hotel accommodation to be isolated and be free from distraction.
2. Feel free to bring a drink to class. In fact, drinking water during a class is scientifically proven to benefit learning. However, please refrain from eating in any class.
4. Camera Awareness
1. During periods of synchronous online classes, it is required that you be live on camera the entire time the class is in session. Teachers will be cognisant of your presence and the record of your adherence to this policy will be maintained. This is really the only way teachers can verify your attendance and credit you for the full time of the class.
5. Being wary of the environment
1. Access classes without causing any distraction or disruption to sessions. It needs to be ensured that you are in a quiet atmosphere with no sudden sounds which can be heard by the entire class. Make sure to have a plain background behind so that it is not distracting for others. Moreover, nobody would want other participants to catch a glimpse of their personal life more than required.
6. Focus & Behaviour For Learning
1. Please alway give your class, classmates, teachers and the learning activities your full attention. This might me removing distractions and setting aside other tasks and people. It is not possible to multitask during the your Yes, Learn class, as it is impossible to get the very best out of your lesson and is very distracting to your classmates and the teacher.
2. Avoid side conversations and multitasking.
3. Save your meals and snacks for between your classes; eating during class is generally frowned upon and being in an online classroom is no different.
4. Pretend you are in your regular academic classroom and put your best ‘virtual’ foot forward!
7. Interactions with Yes, Learn Teachers
1. Students should address all teachers and members of Learning Support as adults with the courtesy expected for education professionals. After all that’s is who we are and of course al learners are treated with respect too.
2. Students should phrase communications with all teachers and members of Learning Support in a polite and courteous manner appropriate for speaking to adults. The tone of emails and instant message conversations must be respectful.
3. Since our online environment is a learning environment, students should not use excessive “slang” or language that they might use in other environments.
4. Learners are not to use obscene, profane, threatening, or disrespectful language or images in any communications with all teachers and members of Learning Support. These actions are prohibited.
5. If profile pictures are used it should be a headshot of the student only and may not be offensive or inappropriate in any manner. Other types of profile pictures have the same expectation place on them.
8. Interactions with other Online Classmates
1. All communications with other online students in any class, forum, course related email, discussion post, etc., must be polite, courteous, and respectful and be of a professional nature.
2. The integrity and authenticity of student work is something that we take seriously and check using a variety of technologies. Copying the work of others, allowing others to knowingly copy a student’s work, and/or misusing content from the Internet could result in down grade. This includes the use of search engines and artificial intelligence.
3. Do not collaborate with other students (work with) on your assignments unless directed to do so by your Yes, Learn teacher. Working together is useful in the traditional classroom, but it is not permitted in our online environment without specific teacher instructions to do so.
4. Parents/others may not login to a student account and attend classes or complete coursework on behalf of the student. Contact Learning Support for guidance if necessary.
5, Students are not to use obscene, profane, threatening, or disrespectful language or images in any communications with other students.
9. Appropriate Use of the Internet
1. Students are subject to all local, state, and federal laws governing the Internet and will be subject to disciplinary action that may result in removal from course(s) and Yes, Learn if violated.
2. Protect your privacy and that of others by not giving out personal information including full names or contact information.
3. Only upload or use images where you have permission from the people in those images.
4. Not giving out your password(s).
5. Protect and respect the hard work of others by only uploading images, music, videos or other digital content that is created by you or is not subject to a copyright and follow copyright procedures when using any digital content.

Outcomes
Remember we are here to help and support your learning as much as possible. Following the above points will ensure that all of our learners will be able to achieve their aims in a safe and successful way.
Failure to follow these points will make the our mutual learning intentions very difficult, if not impossible to achieve. Removal from all Yes, Learn services is a last resort, but it is possible. No refund are possible for anyone removed from any Yes, Learn service.
Contact Learning Support for guidance if necessary.
The simplest route to successful behaviour of learning is to remember why we are all here in the first place; learning, so that we may feed our dreams.
“For everyday you are not the person you want to be, it costs you the benefits of being there.”
